Image#1: I think it could be interesting to someone but it’s not to me. I think there is no real significance to this image. The image is telling me be aware of obesity maybe?
Image#2: It is an interesting image because it has history and a story behind it. The significance is that its a real photograph from the spanish civil war.
My answers havent changed, I just now understand sort of the basis of where the first image comes from.
Image#3: The new image is not as interesting because it has no story but I do understand the basis but its less as meaningful. My answers havent changed because the original has so much meaning and story behind it and the new image has nothing to show.
Image#4: The new image has so little meaning but I yet again understand the inspiration from which it comes but it still doesnt have a story and truth behind it. The new objects used to replace the old image have no meaning to me.

Image 1. This is an insteresing image because it makes the viewer feel like laughing at the comicalness of a fat lady falling, however it also brings out pity in the viewer because they feel sorry for the lady. This image is significant because it is showing how the increase of Obesity in America is making our country fall backwards. This says to me that we need to end America’s growing Obesity epidemic.
Image 2. This is an interesting image because it depicts a dying soldier which most people would find sad and feel pity for the person. The significance of this image is that it depics a fallen warrior giving his life for his cause. This image says to me that war is not worth the loss of life. After seeing this original image I now know that the first image is not about obesity it is just a comical spin on a great picture. In the new image the bread is used to replace his gun and the fat lady is chosen to replace the man.

  3. Logan Boblett

Image 1: Fat lady falling backwards, In this image some people may think it,s an interesting picture but to me i seen no intrest in it. This image isn’t very interesting to me because i see no excitement in it. I think that this picture needs more color and way more fun in it. The significance of this photo is that is has the same exact pose as the second one. The second picture has a man dying in it. That man was brave enough to serve his country and the fat lady did nothing besides eat alot. them may have both died. The man got shot and the lady had a heart attack from being to over weight.
Image 2: Falling Soilder. This image is very interesting to me because it shows them in war fight for something thats good or may be bad. The significance of this photo is the lady falling backwards. The artist is trying to say that in todays society the fat lady does nothing and back then they were probably starving and dying from hunger.
Image 3 and 4: In these images its comparing what we have today and what they had a long time ago. Back then they had nothing and now we have like everything. They foght for what we have today. If they wouldnt of fought maybe it would of been different today. In 3 the lady is running in excitement and in a toy isle. Image 4 the little girl is running out of fear and looks nopthing like happiness. The author is trying to say once again that what we have today is like spoiling us and we dont have to do anything to get it.

  4. Trevor O'Keefe

Image 1: This image is interesting to me because the woman doesn’t look like she is falling as fast as the soldier. She is being compared to a soldier when she is an ordinary woman with groceries in her hand.It is significant because he is being shot while the woman looks like she is falling. The images makes me feel sad because the women is falling and the man is being shot in war. I feel more compassion for the older photo than the new. The significance of the new object isn’t as important as the old. It is comparing a gun to a piece of bread. Also the groceries can resemble his water and pack.

    Period 2
Image 1: I’d say it’s an interesting image because it’s this over sized women sitting on air in the middle of the street with a bag of groceries in one hand and in the other a loaf of bread she’s about ready to eat. Yes it’s an interesting image because you don’t see that everyday. I think the significant of the image is that it doesn’t matter where you are as long as your hungry you can eat anywhere you want, according to this lady. I think the artist is trying to say that they can eat anywhere they want. Image 2: I don’t think this image is interesting because it’s an old man sliding down a hill with a shot gun in his hand. I think this image is significant to war like he was caught of guard and slipped. I think the artist is trying to say that this image is remembrance of a soldier in the war that died. Image 3: This is the image I like because it reminds me of myself at a young age when I would get all excited with Polly Pockets. It’s an interesting image because it’s this little girl getting all excited running down an aisle full of dolls. I think the significant of the image is that little girls love dolls. I think the artist is trying to say that little girls will always get excited when seeing an aisle full of amazing dolls. Image 4: This is a sad image. It’s sad because it’s little boys and girls running, screaming away from soldiers. I think the significant of this image is that times during the war were tough and even little kids have to suffer. I think the artist is trying to say that when you think of war you might not think of kids getting hurt but they do.

  6. Breanna Flinn

Image #1: This is not an interesting image, it’s just ugly fat lady carrying food. Perhaps It’s significant and ironic because the lady is already so fat, and she’s carrying more food. You don’t need all that food Fat Lady, go on a diet! The artist is trying to give America a hint, that we’re pretty overweight and should try and be healthy… or else we’ll end up like this gross lady. Her weight is disgusting, I doubt any man will ever love her.
Image #2: This is kind of interesting, because I can’t tell what’s happening. He looks darker skinned, and there’s definately a gun. After reading the description, I know that this was taken in 1936 during the Spanish American war. It’s significant because he looks like he’s “falling”, possibly dying. In the end we all die. The artist wants us to remember the fallen soldiers and people who die bravely every day.
Image #3: Now this Is just creepy. Who is htis mystery girl wtih such weird makeup and a weirdly joyous expression on her face? She is surrounded by creepy dolls and possibley in a store. It’s significant because I think the artist is trying to portray the economy and how little girls are exposed to such advertisments and expected to play with dolls.
Image #4: This is really sad because it really happened to someone. It’s significant in a lot of ways. She was badly burned and running naked through the streets. The artist was trying to capture the horrific events going on at the time. The look on the little girls face is that of sheer terror.

  7. Daniel Ziegler

Image #1 this is a very interesting photo both in the art itself and the way he chose to do it. First the art is done to the point where you gain almost a 3D feeling. I beleave he is trying to show the war on obesity, seeing as though she is falling over the artist is trying to show that we are unstable or failing. Yet even when shes falling she is still holding her bread.

  8. Michael Hampton Period 4

Image 1, i do not think this image is interesting at all. The lady falling dosnt seem as symbolic in any way to me. i find this picture pretty boring.
Image 2 is more intersting to me because it has a back story behind it. It actually represents the death of somthing. This picture interests me more because there is more happening in the picture and you can try to guess whats happening compared to the lady who is just falling backwards.
Image 3 and 4 image three confuses me. who is the lady? Why does she look so happy in a isle full of dolls? What is the artist trying to capture here? Image 4 makes more sense theres war and there is alot of suffering which is easily captured by the people in the pictures

  9. Elianna Zambrano

    Image #1
I really dont know what to think about this image. I honestly think its boring. The only thing i see is a women falling with her groceries. There isn’t much detail. I dont know where she is falling. Is she in a city or small town? Is she on the sidewalk of a hall way? Where is she? There isn’t much going on, and honestly the more I think about it the more confused I get. So in my opinion this picture is boring and I think more detail could have been added.

  10. Alicia Martinez per.4

Image 1: this is an image of a woman that is over weight and she’s just lying back eating. This picture is not interesting to me because there’s nothing to it just a girl lying back eating. I think the significance of the picture is that it’s showing that some people are over weight and lazy although this girl looks like she walked to the grocery store.
Image 2: this picture is actually pretty interesting to me because it’s a solder that just got shot and is falling to the ground. What is so significant about this image that it’s actually during the war it’s not just taken with a model it’s an actual action shot. I think the author is trying to say that the war is a violet place and not everyone makes it out alive people are hurt and injured all the time. After seeing the original one my answer definantly changed i had a whole different prospective on the actual image
image 3: this picture is a little weird to me. but i can see why she is so happy to see all those toys, its a little girls dream to be in a place filled with toys
image 4:this image is actually intresting it is showing war and children running away screeming out of sheer fear i think the artist is trying to show you that not everything is perfect and some people are hurting others. what makes this picture intresting is the different prospectives on it how you go from the happy kid(or so you thought) to the little girl screeming and running away from the guards.

  11. Tavara Johnson

Image #1 I think the image is somewhat interesting because of the colors. and it seems to be well thought out. the image doesn’t really say much to me, but i believe the artist is trying to make us aware of obesity.
Image #2 Yes it is an intersting image because it shows a human being brave and it looks like he is dtanding alone. The image shows patriotism and strenght. The artist is trying to show that anyone can stand up for their country. After seeing the original it makes my answers more touching and more about the country. the objects used to replace the original image are used to show what the problems are in todays society.
Image #3 This image is a little weird but the colors are very similar. I don’t really get why she is so excited to be in a isle full of doll related toys. It might be important because she can not afford them so she is having a good time. The image shows happiness and joyfulness.
Image #4 This photo is very interesting because it shows what really happened in the war and how it effected everyone even the young. it is important because it shows what the war did to people. the image to me shows pain and terror, the artist is probably trying to show that exact feeling. The first one is more comical and the original is terror. The first image uses dolls and the original has other people running in terror.
Image #5 I don’t find this very interesting it is kind of boring, it just shows a man standing in front of shopping carts. well it shows the man standing alone. The artist is trying to show a man standing alone and in front of a large number of carts.
Image #6 This image is more intersesting because it actually has a meaning to it.It shows a man standing up for what he believes in. The original is more important because it is life threatening and powerful. The objects are plane and ordinary and the original one is scary and big.

  12. Sophia Miller

Image #1 & Image #2: Image 1 wasn’t that interesting to me because I already know what it’s trying to tell me, so it doesn’t make it a challenge to figure out what it means. It does show some significance because it’s saying how obesity our world is rising (not only in America). The artist is telling me that maybe the obese lady in the picture is falling because of her weight and how much food she’s holding because of her greediness. In my opinion, this image makes me feel upset because how realistic this is. Image 2 is much more interesting compared to the first picture because it has to do with a historical war, the Spanish Civil War, and it probably has an inspiring story behind it. This picture has significance because it shows me how this brave solider giving his life for his cause. He’s sacrificing himself for the ones he loves. This image tells me to be grateful for who I have and what I have.

Image #3 & Image #4: Comparing the two images: the little girl joyfully running through the girl’s toys isle looking at the toys and the scared and frantic girls and boys running away from an unfortunate South Vietnamese napalm attack. They both are interesting but I think the napalm attack is far more interesting because it was all over the news and it was a historical thing that happened. This significance of the girl running through the toys isle shows how spoiled our children are today and how lucky they are than other country’s children. For example, in the picture of scared girls and boys running away in fear while we live spoiled playing with all our “toys” (technology). The significance of the objects in the photo of the girl running down the toys isle is the toys on both sides of her while the army is on both sides of the children protecting them.

Image #5 & Image #6: Both pictures are interesting because they both mean something that I can’t quite figure out. The man facing all the shopping carts in the middle of an empty parking lot compared to the man who stood in front of a column of Chinese tanks the morning after the Chinese military forcibly removed protestors from in and around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on June 5, 1989 resemble a man standing in front of machines/carts (that is the significance). I think what the artist is trying to tell me is to stand up for my beliefs and never let anyone push me around or bring me down. The significance of the objects in image 5 are the shopping carts facing the man and the significance of the objects in image 6 are the tanks.

  13. Simon Christie

Image 3-4. This image seems interesting to me because it like a bratty little girl running through a store screaming. I hate when that happens because why would a childs parents let a kid be that much of a brat. I don’t really know what the artist is trying to say though it might be that the children of this generation are extremely spoiled compared to people from other places. After seeing the original image which seems to bring out much more emotion that the more recent one, I still think that the first image may be about the spoiled state of the children of this generation.
Image 5-6. This first image does not seem interseting to me, becuase it just looks like a man standing in front of a bunch of shopping carts. This image is compared to tank man which is a much more interesting image showing the courage a one protestor. The first image evokes much less emotion and seems to have no importance while the second image is truly interesting and empowering.

  14. Andrew Miech Period 2

Image One: I don’t know that I would consider this image interesting, but it defiantly catches my attention. It has sort of a comical side to it as fat lady’s falling does seem to make people laugh. The photographer may seem to be trying to bring awareness of obesity, and maybe he is, but also this image is compared to one of a soldier who is being shot. This comparison says to me that something comical, such as a fat lady falling, should not be laughed at because it could be more serious, like a soldier in war during his final moment.

Image Two: At first I thought the image was rather stupid and similar to a Japanese anime. The way the lady is dressed and all the dolls make me think this. After seeing the original image I started to wonder why the photographer would make his copy so light-hearted. To me, the first image does not say anything. The lady seems rather happy even though in the original the kids are running in terror and pain with army soldiers next to them. The use of dolls in the copy furthers the lightheartedness and to me, I think that it was a stupid choice and I do not enjoy the image.

Image Three: This image somewhat catches my attention, the shear size of all the shopping carts vs. the lone guy seems to create a sense of being overpowered. This is a raw, real emotional feeling and it catches people attention. After seeing the original image, I still have the same feeling- that overwhelming sense of helplessness and being so much smaller than you opponent. Although I am not sure of the significance of using shopping carts, I would say the formation of the shopping carts does the copy image justice.

  15. brandon chandler p.2

    Image#1
The image that is shown dose not seems to interesting to me but has some funny parts about it. There is no true significant part of the picture other then some lady falling. I think the artist is trying to say that you don’t want to carry food around and fall.

    Image #2
I think that the image is kind of interesting but also dull.
I think he is trying to show the people dyeing and trying to get other people to feel sad about it. I think the artist is trying to stop war and not have is continue on.

    Image#3
I think that the little girl running in between the baby dolls is kind of interesting. The photographer is trying to show people about a little girl being excited. The artist might be saying how little girls are exposed to advertisement at such young ages

    Image#4
I think the village burning is a terrifying experience and such young people experienced it.
He is most likely saying how little kids are a tragedy as war continues on. He is telling us to stop war and to think before we act.

  16. Keldon Schmitt

Image #1 is an interesting piece because it is showing the new death of our country, obesity. Instead of dying heroically on the battle field we are dying shamelessly in the supermarkets. The artist is clearly trying to state that war isn’t always one country against another, sometimes its one country against itself!

Image #2 is once again showing the pathetic, so called “First World Problems” of the United States. The little girl is throwing a fit, probably because she didn’t get the Barbie Doll she wanted, but rewind back in time and this poor little girl is running for her life from the flames that have burnt her clothes and the skin on her back. The artist is once again pointing out what true tragedy is.

Image #3 is a very interesting image because it shows the power struggle of the customer, and the rising prices of groceries. This image shows that standing up for what you believe in is much easier than it used to be. You no longer have to stand in front of 4 tanks to get what you want; you merely have to stand in front of some grocery carts. He is saying things are getting to easy, not for the better but for the worse.

  17. Austin Hunt

1st Image:The first image is eye-catching but not very interesting to me; it tries to duplicate an older photo in modern times. The artist is trying to show the old war photo with a lady holding a baguette instead of a gun. It is significant because after looking at both photos you can easily tell that they mirror each other, so the modern version is set up well enough so you can see it tries to replicate the older one.

2nd Image:The second image is interesting bacuse it shows what was happening during that time period. The modern version doesn’t do enough justice for the older one. It is too simple compared to an older image that has much more depth and can tell a story. The original version is significant because it is evidence of what happened in the Vietnam War.

3rd Image:In the modern version of “Tank Man”, it uses shopping carts to represent the tanks. Of course the older version can tell you a lot more after looking at it. But is significant because it showed a representation of a person standing up for what should be right. After seeing the original you actually know what the first picture is suppose to be showing.

  18. Colin Brown Period2

Image#1 I didnt find this image interesting at all because it is just an obese woman falling down. I think the artist is trying to say that the woman is America and like the soldier America is falling because of obesity.
Image#2 I thought this image was very interesting because the images are so opposite. I think the artist is trying to say that we are very out of touch with what is going on in the world.
Image#3 I think this image is interesting because I think it has a cool meaning. I think the artist is trying to say that the shopping carts are the American cooperation’s and someone needs to stand up to them

  19. Cameron Karbum

Image 1: I don’t think it is interesting, it doesn’t make me go “wow” it’s a comical images but it has a more in depth meaning. Its not interesting because there is nothing interesting about it, it’s just a fat lady falling. This photo really seems to have absolutely no significance, like I said earlier, just a fat women falling. I think he is say that in America food and obesity is causing people to die and fall.

Image 2: The first image alone is not interesting; it’s just a spoiled girl screaming in happiness at all the dolls. There is no real significance to this image, just a girl screaming in a toy store in the doll isle. I think the artist is trying to say that kids scream because now day’s kids are spoiled and get what they want. My view has definitely changed after seeing the original image. I think what the other is really saying is how fortunate we are. Now girls scream about not getting a doll but back in Vietnam the scream because they are being burned alive.

Image 3: Once again just seeing the first image without seeing the second image it seems not interesting. Its just a guy in front of shopping carts which he probably has to put away but he is to lazy. And because this image is not interesting it really has no significance. He is trying to say possibly Americans are lazy and are overwhelmed by seemingly easy tasks. Yes, my answer has changed I think what artist is actually saying is how years ago a man had to go head to head with a heavily armored tank but now he has to face shopping cart. Once again the other is portraying how easy we have it.

  20. Nicolle Martin period 4

Image Set 1: This image is pretty interesting when given the context of what picture it is based off of, because it really puts into perspective what the photographer was trying to convey. I believe the significance of the image was to show how America is spoiled compared to other countries. While other countries are constantly at war with each other killing thousands, a lot of American citizens are just dying because heart attacks or other eating-related diseases. The artist is trying to tell Americans that they’re spoiled and they take things for granted. While people are starving and dying of diseases, we’re all overeating and dying because of obesity-related health issues.
Image Set 2: When this image is put into context with the original, the author’s message is clear, true, and interesting. The significance of this image is to show how kids in other countries are being severely hurt while our kids in America are completely spoiled, like the girl in the picture. She’s nicely dressed, walking down the isle getting to get a toy, with all the colors, it portrays a happy emotion., but when the second image is shown it’s just like a slap in the face, because everyone cannot have this sort of happiness.
Image Set 3: This image at first is pretty dull. It’s just a working guy pushing carts. There seems to be no significance at all really, and the message trying to be conveyed isn’t very clear. Then after seeing the original image, I think the author was trying to say to us that we really don’t have it as bad as other countries, yes we have a war going on, but it’s not on our land and we don’t have tanks driving down the street. It kind of makes our work seem miniscule and not as big of a deal compared to whatever country this was photograph was taken in.

  21. kaleb Kunes

Image 1: This image is interesting to me. It shows how food is the one killing us now. The significance is that it is similar to a war photo of someone getting shot, but instead of getting shot a fat woman is falling with food in her hands. I think the artist is saying how food can kill these days.

    Image 2:

  22. Grace Moir

    Period 4
I noticed that all these pictures are imitating old photos taken in times of disaster and war.
#1 this is an interesting picture, for me it’s because the awkwardness of the woman combined with the fact that she is falling is funny. But I think this picture has a deeper meaning then a large lady struggling with her food… maybe the artist is trying to portray the struggles we Americans have in general, as a whole. At first the picture is funny, but then it creates sympathy for the lady… Which could ironically be sympathy for ourselves. Compared to the “Falling Solder” these pictures have a similar message to me…
#2 this picture doesn’t really interest me… the lady is a little bit scary, and so are the baby dolls. I think this image is trying to show how crazy we can be with advertisement and material things. Compared to the “Napalm Girl” photo, this is really insensitive… they are two totally different scenarios.
#3 I like this picture… I think the only reason the artist took this photo was in response to “Tank Man”… the modern interpretation is very mysterious. Both have a sense of gloom and make me a little bit upset… but I still like the picture. I don’t think it has a meaning, unless compared to the older photo.

  23. Carla Ruiz Period 4

Image 1: Overweight lady falling- I think it’s an interesting image because it’s different and could mean many different things. I think the significance of this image is how today we are more concerned with food and unimportant things when back in the time of the black and white picture what was important was protecting and serving for our country. I think the artist was trying to show how different tings are now than they were back then. It means to me that our priorities are probably in the wrong order and its something we should think about.

Image 2: Girl walking through doll isle- I don’t really think it’s an interesting image because I don’t see what it has to do with the original. I think the significance of this image is also how our problems today are much smaller than the ones people had to face earlier. I think the artist was saying how we are spoiled to only have to worry about minor things when the girl in the picture had her clothes burned off! It means to me that we are lucky to live in a world today when those types of situations are not a problem here.

Image 3: Man standing in front of shopping carts- I think it’s an interesting image because it’s not something you see everyday, a man standing front of many, many carts all lined up together. I think the significance is showing the difference between a brave man standing in front of tanks and a regular man standing in front of shopping carts. I think the artist was trying to show the braveness of the man in the original picture. It means to me that the man was kind of a hero for standing up to the tanks.

  24. Rosie Tufte Period 4

Image 1: I believe that this picture is a really interesting picture because there are so much meaning behind this picture. What I mean by meaning is that there are many different ways in what you believe in what this picture is trying to tell us. I believe that the significance behind this picture is that we as Americans don’t realize how lucky we are to have all of the things we have, and in this case its food. I believe that the falling part is representing the other countries and how they have fallen in the economic way or in the case of this about the shortage of food in other countries.

  25. Maddy Offerman Period 4

    1. I think this image is interesting because it is a real life image of something that we see a lot, obese people. The image is humorous because the lady is fat and awkward and is falling. If someone saw this in real life they would most likely laugh. This image expresses the dangers of obesity. Obesity hurts you just like falling does. I think the second image is also interesting, but I like the first image better. Although the original image is more serious and meaningful it is easier to relate to the first image, which makes it more interesting to me. The significance of this image is to show the dangers of war. The artist was trying to get across how sad war is and that it should not continue. After seeing this image I think the first image was trying to show the difference between the problems people had then and now. In the first image the woman is struggling with obesity, but in the original the man was fighting for his country.
    2. I don’t think this picture is very interesting. All it is is a happy little girl running through a toy aisle. This picture shows the stereotype that girls like dolls. The original image is more interesting to me because it really captures the emotions during that time. This image shows how devastating the war was to people in Vietnam. I think the two images show that while girls are happy playing with dolls in America there are terrible things happening in other places.

  26. James Liwanag

Image1:This image is not the most interesting image to me, although it does catch my eye. The main reason this image catches my eye is the fact that the person is sitting on air and its just a trip to look at. I think the significance of this image is directly pointing at todays society and how our laziness has evolved throughout time and can be directly pointe to food. this artist is telling me to stop being lazy and do something. This image makes me feel lazy and want to eat, although i want to stand and do something else.
Image2:This image again is not the most interesting picture in the world, although it is really eye catching. This picture seems eye catching because of the gun and background and how it looks like the guy is getting shot. I think the significance of this image is to show that weapons can be dangerous. The artist is trying to tell me that weapons are hurtful through the facial expression of the guy. This image tells me that weapons lead to danger.
    .. need to continue

  27. Kylie Spencer

Image #1: This photo is interesting in a unique way. It almost looks like someone did something to the photo in Photoshop. The image looks like she is sitting in a chair and pretending to fall back but the image had the chair photo shopped out. I believe that the artist maybe wanted to capture how humans are imperfect and how we can fall down.

Image#2: This image is very interesting in that the photographer somehow got a picture of the solider that close. The solider looks as if he is falling because of an explosion. I don’t really understand how the photographer wasn’t affected by the explosion and wasn’t falling too. I believe that the artist was trying to capture how soldiers struggle a lot in battle and they fall.

Image#3: This image is very bright compared to the other photos and had more color to it. The girl in the photo has a very excited expression. I believe that the artist was trying to show the excitement of a child and how new things can make them feel happy.

Image#4: This image is very dark. The image has a sad tone to it and makes me feel sad when I look at it. The image shows the terror that war brings to groups of people. I believe that the artist was trying to show how the war was affecting the children and how they had to run for their lives.

Image#5: This image is very strange in that the man looking at the shopping carts looks kind of stunned by the amount of shopping carts. The photo makes it seem like the man doesn’t know what to do with himself. I believe the artist was trying to capture the man’s emotion of not knowing what to do with himself.

Image#6: This image also looks like he is stunned about seeing tanks in the streets, but who wouldn’t be. The photo looks like the man is trying to make a decision about what to do. I believe that the artist was trying to capture what it’s like to make a big life changing decision.

  28. Vicente Reyes Period 1

    Image #1
    1. It is an interesting image. Although, it is kind of strage.
    2. It is interesting because the picture ws taken while this very large woman was holding food and falling.
    3. The significance of the image is that it shows that americans are too fat.
    4. This image says to me that we should eat less junk food and exercise more.
    Image #2
    1. Yes, the image is interesting.
    2. The reason I find it interesting is because the soldier seems to have been shot and is falling to his death, but the image was taken while he was falling.
    3. It is significant because it paints a vivid picture of what war is like.
    4. Yes, my answers have changed.
    5. Well, the food is killing the large woman and guns and war are killing the man.
    Image #3, 4, and 5
    1. Yes.
    2. The images are interesting because they are similiar but yet so different.
    3. I think the artist is trying to say that modern society has become to materialist.
    4. Seeing the original changes my answers significantly because it just shows how some kids are a lot worse and some kids are spoiled brats.
    Image #6
    1. I personally did not find this image interesting.
    2. It is not interesting to me because all it is is a man standing in front of shopping karts which I suppose is similiar to the man standing in front of tanks, but not really.
    3. I guess he is trying to say that we are fortunate that we don’t have to stand up against tanks.
    4. The original image is significant, but unfortunately I don’t see the comparrison trying to be made.
    5. Shopping karts in an empty parking lot replaced tanks. Tanks are a lot scarier than shopping karts.

Picture 2:Yes this picture is appealing to me because it has a creepy setting to it with all of the dolls and the creepy woman. This image is significant because it shows a happy women walking down the isle of dolls. The image is telling me that the girl is happy and is dressed like those creepy dolls, it makes me feel scared of that girl. My answers have changed because this happy women in an isle of dolls is compared to a girl on fire? Why would you compare these images? The significance of the replacement items is its trying to show a happier setting and that she is dressed like the dolls.

  30. Caitlin Hurst from period 1

    Images 1 & 2:
The images are interesting together, however the first image by itself is not interesting. It seems like the artist is trying to make a point of the struggles the Americans face and the struggles that have taken place worldwide throughout history. An American might face obesity, while in other countries people starve to death. An American might struggle to get enough exercise while others fight and die in revolutionary or civil wars. It is interesting to see the artist’s choice of replacing the gun with a baguette; it makes his comments on what Americans take for granted so much clearer, and it is true that many Americans or people in developed countries have no idea what starving feels like or what war is really like. (I’m obviously not saying this about everyone but a just majority)
    Images 3 & 4:
The images are very interesting, but again they are more so when they are put together. I think the artist is making a statement about war and who it is that really suffers. That image of the little girl screaming is so haunting; children should not be made to suffer like that. I also think that the artist is trying to make a point on children in developed countries, like America, who don’t really understand world affairs and don’t understand how lucky they are to be safe and protected by their government. It is actually kind of irritating to think about the many times when I have heard kids crying for some stupid toy, and now I think about how lucky they are that that is what they get to cry about; not starving or being burned by napalm.
    Images 5 & 6:
Again these two images are interesting together, although I don’t completely understand the first one. And again the artist seems to be making a point about western countries and the safety they have. I think he is trying to point out that some countries don’t have to worry about basic rights while countries like China have had a history of people’s rights being infringed upon. Again, people in other countries don’t have the luxury of worrying about grocery shopping when they don’t have basic rights.

Just to be clear I am not saying that everyone that lives in America is ungrateful, I am saying that we should be more aware of what happens and has happened in the world and be thankful that we really don’t have to worry about war, starvation, and basic rights.

  31. Sam Beppler

This image is interesting because the overweight woman, carrying a surplus of grocery items contrasts with the dirty and run-down background. The artist is showing the fatality of being overly nourished.
Yes it is an interesting image because it shows the strong emotion in a falling soldiers eyes. It is significant because it represents the horrors of war. The artist is showing what is lost in wars. The significance of replacing guns with food and replacing a soldier with a fatty portrays the deadly risks of obesity, as if the bread was directly killing her.

This image is not interesting. It is just an overly excited girl amongst a surplus of dolls. There doesn’t seem to be a significance. The artist does make the girl look somewhat like a doll herself so it looks like she is among a bunch of herself in doll form.
The image of the Vietnamese is very interesting because the children running away from smoke are all looking injured and horrified. The artist is showing in this picture the affect war has on children and innocent people. By switching out these gruesome objects with that of a toy store portray the luxury of first world countries and how their unfair joy is the opposite of the people at war.

The image of a man with shopping carts is not very interesting because it seems boring and pointless. The significance could be that grocery stores are out confront him.
After seeing the Tank Man image, the shopping cart image reveals that the man is standing up to the authoritive and strong grocery stores. The imperfect number in each row may signify that grocery companies have corruption.

  32. Ben Newman

Image 1:I found this image to be interesting because it is being compared to a historic photo. This significance of this image is that the photographer is trying to make a connection between this woman dying and the soldier dying.

  33. June Pederson

I think this is an interesting image.
I think it is interesting because, the person is in a very awkward pose. She is looking at a wall instead of straight ahead or down at the ground. She is wearing work out clothes but is holding a large piece of bread, and she is sitting awkwardly in mid air.
It is trying to represent the falling solder, but in modern day America.
I think this image is trying to show me the difference between now and then. Back in the olden days they were skinny from hunger and going through war, and they were suffering. Now we are glutinous and going through war, and STILL suffering. We still can’t win…

    • Yes very much so..
    • Because, of the clothes he is wearing, it looks like he just sat in mid air. And the quality and meaning of this photo is probably way to advanced for this ara.
    • It is significant because it was in a historical war, and it’s kind of representing that we just need to freeze, stop what were doing and think about how it will affect the future.
    • I think this image is trying to teach me a lesson to be thankful for the soldiers fighting for our country.
    • Not very much because I have seen the comparison before…
    • Well I think they are very significant because one has a gun and one has bread, maybe this is representing the inner war in ourselves and the outer war with the world.

    Yes.
Because the image goes from a happy child, to the harsh reality of today’s world.
It Signifies the rich over the poor, and how parts of this world is glutinous so other parts of the world have to suffer.
That we as Americans take granted how safe and protected we are, and how many privileges we have that people around the world don’t.
No. because we saw them in class.
The girl in the first image was crazy for doll’s and looked like she was in heaven, and the girl in the second one was running around because she was hit with napalm.

    Yes.
Because he has so many shopping carts.
It might be because he is a large purchaser.
Our country is made of consumers.

    • Yes.
    • Because a man is standing in front of large tanks that could easily kill him.
    • It shows that a person can stand up for what they belive in.
    • It tells me it’s not ok to let people do what they want, I can and will say something.
    • It’s not about consumerism at all.
    • I think that it represents how we should stand against the media/ trends, and how know one should be controlled by force…… ?

  34. Julia Valdivia period 2

    Image 1
    • Is it an interesting image?
Honestly, in my opinion, it’s not an interesting image.
    • Why or why not?
I don’t think it’s interesting because all I see is a woman about to fall while holding bread in one hand and groceries in the other.
    • What is the significance of the image?
The significance of this picture might be that it’s portraying America and how it’s slowly deteriorating.
    • What is the artist trying to say/what does the
    image say to you?
What I get out of the image is the society of the United States and how each and every year our citizen obesity rate goes higher. And, how we as a country are slowly starting to fall and weaken.

    Image 1 part 2
    • Is it an interesting image?
Yeah it’s pretty interesting and sad.
    • Why or why not?
I think it’s more sad than interesting because it’s showing a soldier die by getting shot in the chest during the Spanish Civil War.
    • What is the significance of the image?
The significance of this picture is that a soldier died fighting for his country.
    • What is the artist trying to say/what does the
    image say to you?
I think it’s saying nothing good comes out of war.
    • After seeing the original, how have your answers
    changed?
    • What is the significance of the objects used to
    replace the original image?
Well in the first image the woman is holding bread instead of a gun and is falling instead of falling to her death.

    Image 2 part 1 and 2
    • Is it an interesting image, why or why not?
Both these images are interesting because they both say a lot; at least they do to me.
    • What is the significance of the image?
Well the first image is a girl running through the doll section of a department store. And the second is a group of children running for their lives trying to get a way from a bomb.
    • What is the artist trying to say/what does the
    image say to you?
I think the first image is portraying all the insecurities and expectations a girl has to face and live up to. What I get from the second one is that war is horrible nothing comes out of it and nobody wins.
    • After seeing the original, how have your answers
    changed?
    No not really.
    • What is the significance of the objects used to
    replace the original image?
In the first picture the girl is running through the doll section instead of running from death.

    Image 3
    Is it an interesting image?
    • Why or why not?
The first image all I saw was a man standing in front of shopping carts but the second picture a saw a man stand for what he believed in.
    • What is the significance of the image?
The second picture is significant because a man stood in front of a dozen tanks so they won’t go and kill people.
    • What is the artist trying to say/what does the
    image say to you?
I don’t really know what the artist is trying to say in the first one maybe the artist tried saying something about the working industry.
    • After seeing the original, how have your answers
    changed?
No, I still see a man standing in front of shopping carts.
    • What is the significance of the objects used to
    replace the original image?
In the first image there is shopping carts instead of tanks.

  35. Sage Blundell

I found this image interesting with a over weight woman holding food floating in the air, but when you take the two images and you separate them I dont find it very interesting anymore because the wall is just black and white and all the attention is on the woman. I think a message here is you can eat where ever you want and no matter where you are.

This is interesting because they are putting two different time frames on the picture and it makes you want to think harder and harder about the pictures together because they dont go very well but at the same time they do make sense.

The colors show a lot of significance in the image because they used two different toned to the two different photos. The woman stands out more because she is very vivid compared to the black and white wall behind her and i think the photographer did that so that people would understand that the image is more the woman.

The artist is trying to say that you can be yourself and you can eaet anywhere. Lastly, the artist used a black and white wall as the back ground so that when you look at it your attention is at the woman and question why shes floating or why she has random food in her hand.

  36. Carleigh Cameron

I don’t find very much about this image interesting. I like the way the woman’s body is positioned but I don’t think it can be compared to the original. If anything I believe it in a sense makes fun of the black and white picture. An overweight woman holding groceries and a loaf of bread should not compare to the significance of a soldier dying for his country. The artist is saying how people in the past died from worthy deaths while people die today from being greedy with how much food they eat.

  37. Luke Stowell Period 2

Image 1and 2: I think it’s interesting if you like that type of photography. The concept of it to me is interesting but the actual picture is not. I think the first and second image relate in a couple of ways. The first way is the concept of falling is the same. The second is that I think the message is the same. I think the first one of the large lady represents the decline of health in America and the second was of a soldier dyeing.

Image 3 and 4: I think It is an interesting image because the concept, to me, is cool. I think it is cool because no other pictures are like this. I think the significance of this image is showing how crazy people go for things even as simple as barbies. I think the photographer is paying respect to the old WWll photo. My answers have changed a few ways after seeing the original. One way is that the whole attitude and mood changes. The second photo is real and shows the mental and physical effects of war. Also, the mood becomes gloomy and sad.

Image 5 and 6: I think image 1 is interesting because it is a spin off of the man standing in front of tanks. Also, it can correspond to today’s irony of shopping when you have no money. I think the artist is saying that shopping carts can be as fierce and intimidating as tanks. After seeing the original image my thoughts have changed a few ways. One way is that the mood becomes serious because tanks are big and that man was standing up for a noble and real reason.

  38. Arieanna Porter period 4

#1 No, because it appears that it is just a picture of someone that is falling while holding some bread. The significance of the image is that it is something interesting and unique to look at. Nothing. It appears to just be a picture of someone caught at the wrong moment.
#2 Yes, because the man is making some very interesting architectural figures with his body. The significance of this picture is to show the cruelty of war. The artist is trying to depict the death of a Republican, specifically an Iberian Federation of Libertarian Youth (FIJL), soldier during the Spanish Civil War.
#3 Yes, because it is very pink and I have never seen a little girl cry on the doll isle at a store. This image represents the fear of conforming to the stereotypes of being a girl. This image says that dolls are scary. The picture is not about a scared little girl in a toy store, it’s about a little girl of war disasters Maybe the dolls represent all of the people lost during the Vietnam War.
#4 No, because it is just a man staring at lots of shopping carts. To represent tanks in war. He is trying to show the boy with a plastic bag. They haven’t. It represents a period of government oppression in China.

  39. McKenna Cole

Image 1: I think that this picture is very interesting. I like the way that the color are all darker and shadowy. I don’t really get why she is falling of why she has groceries. I feel like it is sort of a fat joke.

Image 2: I really enjoy this picture because it looks like he is being shot and falling. The pictures are like an action picture. The significance of the image is that he is a soldier fighting in war and being killed and falling to his death. He is trying to say that the soldier is dying.

Image 3: I think that this picture is super creepy! I feel like the girl is super bratty and most likely spoiled. The significance of this picture is that this kids parents need to control her and not spoil her. I’m not quite sure what the artist is trying to say.

Image 4: This picture makes me really sad and kind of creep me out. The significance of this image is that there is a war where ever this is being shot and the children are running from the gas and the soldiers are either trying to save them or hurt them I’m not really sure. I also don’t really understand why the little girl doesn’t have clothes… it’s rather awkward.

Image 5: I like this picture but I don’t really get why he is standing in front of all the shopping carts. But I make him look important and like he is leading an army. I think the artist is trying to make the man look important and brave?

Image 6: I love this picture! The guy standing in front of the tanks is so brave and awesome! I think that the significance of this picture is that this man is standing up for what is right and not moving. I feel that the artist is trying to say that this guy is awesome.

  40. Tori Okada

Image 1- I do not find this an interesting image. It’s too…boring. I don’t think it’s interesting because it plain and I have no idea what the photographer was trying to convey. Someone falling over could represent a lot of things, especially with the supposed end of the world in December.
Image 2- The image itself isn’t interesting. The image though combined with its supposed history can make the image mean many different things. None of which are very positive.
Image 3- Its…pink. Pink. The person in the picture is difficult to make out at best. There’s just too much in the picture. I think the photographer wanted to convey the feeling that children are children and should be happy and have fun.
Image 4- The suffering in the image was…unnecessary. The U.S. Military was an unwanted presence that only made things worse. The photographer is trying to show the U.S. people that the military was doing more harm then good in Vietnam.
Image 5- It’s…unique. I don’t really know what the photographer was thinking when he uh, did this. It kind of looks like the man is being stopped by the store.
Image 6- It’s inspiring. One man, standing up to several tanks, just for what he believed in. This is an interesting image because it shows that one man is capable of making people pay attention to a cause he believes in strong enough to give his life.

  41. Marie Strohman

    1. This image is interesting because it is very different. Its significance is that the woman is unstable, like America. The artist is trying to show that the woman falling over with a bag of food is modern American society, and how we have become lazier and less willing to be heroes and help others selflessly.
    2. This image is interesting because of its juxtaposition in comparison to the picture of the crying children in a poor village. It is significant because it shows the difference between then, when the war was happening, and now. It shows that children today are spoiled because in one picture, children are crying and the other a child is in a toy store, yet she is crying because she didn’t get what she wanted.
    3. This image is interesting because it shows how hard people have to work. The carts symbolize hard work and safety. In the war, people worked hard but were not safe. This photo shows the contrast between what was considered hard work then and now. The artist is trying to say that the carts represent safety in hard work in the modern day, and that you don’t have to sacrifice your life to be a hero.

  42. Devin McCree Per 1

Image 1: It is not an interesting image because it appears merely as an over weight woman who has lost her balance and is falling. The significance of the image is that the woman is falling but still holding on to her bread and groceries. To me the image says that just because you are falling you don’t have to drop everything.

Image 2: It is not an interesting image because it depicts a young girl running down an isle in a store filled with pink dolls. The significance of the image is the fact that the girl is screaming with joy because of all of the dolls. I haven’t got a clue of what the author is trying to say.

Image 3: This is an interesting image because it looks as though a man has arranged shopping carts in 4 columns and is making sure his columns are straight. The significance of the image would be the person to the number of carts, the carts could easily destroy the man; there are many more of them.

Overall, the original images are much more serious. The mimics almost contradict the originals. It is somewhat difficult to see what the author is trying to say by replacing the original objects with rather comical ones.

  43. Lia Monaco

#1: This image is very interesting to observe, mainly because it shows the correlation between the woman’s obvious obesity and the dying soldier, showing death. I think what the artist is trying to portray are the dangers of obesity and how event though the dying soldier is getting shot in the historical photo, there is still the death aspect.

#2: I am not quite sure of this picture’s significance. The doll isle could represent the little girl’s childhood and how in the historical photo she has experienced something that no child should ever have to. This could then also tie into the fact that a Vietnamese girl during the Vietnam War was not worrying about toys, where as in the photo above, the girl running down the doll isle could be screaming in protest to not getting a toy. Maybe the student was trying to portray the irony that we do not know how well we have it now, living in 21st century America.

#3: Because the man in the historical photo is holding shopping bags, this could have something to do with the shopping carts in the artist’s photo. Both portray trying to stand in the way of something, whether it be consumerism or war itself.

  44. Rosie Tufte Period 4

Image 2: I don’t believe that this image is that interesting. I believe this because well you can see that it is just an image of all little girls’ dream, which is being in an isle filled with nothing but dolls. I honestly don’t that there is significance to this image. I believe this because well it’s a little girl screaming down an isle of dolls. But if you relate it to the other image of the little boy screaming and running then I believe that the significance of this picture is that we don’t really see how much we have and we just take advantage of it. I think that the artist is trying to say “hey look at everything that we have now and look at what they had before. We are very lucky that we have everything that we have and we have to be thankful for it because who knows we could be like this little boy running away from this explosion with nothing in his possession not even his clothes.”

  45. Maddy Do-Linh

age 1: At a first glance, I personally don’t find the first image that interesting. I wouldn’t hang a picture of a woman falling holding a bag of groceries and bread, it’s just not super appealing. Although I belief the artist had a motive behind the image. I see it as if the woman is embodying what our world is today. We are falling and getting, well to be blunt, fat.

Image 2: I would say that Krebs photo is interesting. It makes you think. You can’t just look at that photo and say “Oh! This makes so much sense!” because honestly, it doesn’t. After some time of looking at it, I believe it’s significance is maybe little kids today are so spoiled and when they don’t get what they want they throw a fit? I’m not entirely sure. When comparing it to the original, you can see the similarities. The two girls are in the same pose and Krebs places a doll in the girls hand in her picture, I’m not sure how that causes her pain though. The difference between the two shows how different things are. A girl in the present day “having it bad” and a girl being burned alive truly suffering.

Image 3: I’m not sure if I find this image that interesting… Mostly because I don’t really see it’s significance. Obviously something is in the mans way, maybe some physical obstacle, maybe something mentally. Maybe the man doesn’t know how to get past “the shopping carts”. Okay, well looking back at Krebs photo and comparing it to the “Tank Man” I can definitely see the similarity. Is the man with the shopping carts protesting against something? I don’t see how the shopping carts symbolize anything.

  46. Kaleb Kunes

Image 2: I found it interesting because it makes you think about it. I think the significance of this picture is how the two little girls in both pictures represent each other. The artist is telling me how times have changed.
Image 3: I find the image interesting because its comparing tanks with shopping carts. The significance is how it shows a man protesting a bunch of shopping carts. The artist is telling that I need to stop shopping quickly.

  47. Kaleb Kunes

Image 1: This image is interesting to me. It shows how food is the one killing us now. The significance is that it is similar to a war photo of someone getting shot, but instead of getting shot a fat woman is falling with food in her hands. I think the artist is saying how food can kill these days.mage 2: I found it interesting because it makes you think about it.

  48. Rosie Tufte Period 4

Image 3: this image is very interesting in a way. What I mean is that well it’s a man staring at 4 rows of shopping carts in the middle of an empty parking lot. I believe that the significance of this image is that people in our country really do rely on shopping carts because that is one way of achieving our shopping of an abundance of food and what not. Also that people don’t really care about where we leave them for other people to put away for them. After seeing the original picture it just confirms my statement of people relying on shopping carts just as people were relying on those tanks to protect them in the war.

  49. Michael Booth

Image 1: I find the picture interesting because there’s a lot of reasons why she might be falling backwards and we are not sure why. It’s fascinating to hear how other people interpret the photograph. I believe the photographer is trying to portray the dangers of over eating.

Image 2: The second picture is more interesting to me because of the scenario the picture was taken in. There is a soldier in a middle of a gun war and there is photographer with a camera on the battle field with his camera taking a picture. The artist is trying to show the dangers and hardships of the war.

Image 3: Is a little odd to me but I noticed the colors are all similar. The different shades of pinks stick out to me. The girl seemed to be excited to be in an isle of a doll toys.

Image 4: I don’t find this picture interesting because it is simply a man standing in front of shopping carts. I’m not sure what the photographer is trying to say in this picture.

Image 5: This image is more interesting to me because there are huge tanks coming towards a man verses the first picture of a man in front of shopping carts. I think the this image is showing a man standing up against the war.

  50. Emily Sheydayi period 4

Photo #1 I laughed when I saw this picture. I don’t necessarily know exactly why, but it was a comical image. At first when I saw it I had two ideas. Number One, that it represents America today; that a large number of people are being affected by diabetes, which is why when holding food she was falling back (maybe dying). My second idea was that it had something to do with the French Revolution (Probably because I have a history test today). The fact that she was very large made me think of how the peasants represented such a large number of the population and how she was holding bread reminded me of how the price of bread was too high so everyone was starving and dying off. This also ties into the image of her falling which represented the death and starvation of France. The older picture is of a falling solider and has a much more depressing feel to it.

Photo #2 I really didn’t like this picture, at first I was really confused and thought it was kind of disturbing. Now it reminds me of a very spoiled who is throwing a tantrum about how she wants all of the dolls. It is quite the opposite of what the older picture represented. The older image represents fear and poverty while the newer image represents anger and want.

Photo #3 the third image gives a feel of inner turmoil, it’s like the man can’t decide which shopping cart to put his groceries in. He has so many choices, but he’s just too indecisive. Though the older image looked similar it had nothing to do with what I thought the newer one was about. The older image was a man standing in front of war tanks is if he is trying to block their way through.

  51. Devin McCree Per 4

Overall, the original images are much more serious. The mimics almost contradict the originals. It is somewhat difficult to see what the author is trying to say by replacing the original objects with rather comical ones.

  52. Bailey Greenslit

Image: the older image is heart breaking to see the man be shot and compared to that newer image you see that the artist is really trying to make a point. In my opinion I kind of see how the artist is kind of making refrains’ to how American are getting fatter and eventually it will collapse . Woman in my opinion might have had died from a heart attack.
Image 2: In the second image I can’t really think of any thing were they can really get compared besides the two girls in the same body position with the hand ,facial expressions and the legs. The only thing I can really think of is old crul the first image is compared to the older one that the fact that she is in a toy store holding a Barbie and she looks like she is sad and scary and to see that compared to the older picture when it is true sadness and true fear its almost cruel

•After observing the following images, you will need to answer the following:
    •Is it an interesting image?
    •Why or why not?
•What is the significance of the image? (you will need to compare and contrast the contemporary color image with the historical b&w image).
•What is the artist trying to say/what does the image say to you?
Image 1&2: This is an interesting photo to me because I find the lady falling amusing and humurous. I think it is trying to show how people fall in different situations such as a soldier falling during combat or how someones obesity can get in the way of being able to stand on your own two feet. Comparing the two photos really changes how I feel, I went from laughing at the first photo to staring blankly at the screen with respect for that soldier and all the ones that have fought for my country
Image 3&4: I don’t actually like this photo because there is so much pink and the lady look freaky. That does however make it interesting . I think the artist was trying to show how now in modern days, we buy too much, and buy too many pointless items and objects such as the pink dolls.

  54. Carleigh Cameron

Image 1 and 2 I don’t find very much about this image
interesting. I like the way the woman’s body is positioned but I don’t
think it can be compared to the original. If anything I believe it in
a sense makes fun of the black and white picture. An overweight woman
holding groceries and a loaf of bread should not compare to the
significance of a soldier dying for his country. The artist is saying
how people in the past died from worthy deaths while people die today
from being greedy with how much food they eat.

Image 3 and 4 I find this image interesting because it shows
the wealthy childhood of a young girl in a toy store. The girl is in
an element of happiness as she runs down the aisle of all her favorite
toys. In the historical image the girl is running in an element of
horror as her clothes are burned off and she is running for her life.
The black and white image gives the viewer a sense of sadness and
distress at what such a young child had to endure.

    Image 5 and 6
I don’t see how this image is interesting. It can compare in no way to the tragic “Tank Man” photo. This image has no significance that the original photo does. The original showed the rebellion against the Chinese Military while this one shows very little in common with the original photo.

  55. Kaily Wolff

    Image #1:
Yes, I thought that the image was interesting. There are many ideas that can come out of this image. This image might say something to someone and something totally different to another person. I think that the significance of this image is the message behind it. Comparing the black and white image, the similarities between these two images in that the man is holding a gun like he is in a war and the woman is holding a loaf of bread. They are both holding bags and they are also both failing. To me it is saying that this person is living life as a war and struggle, you have to eat in order to survive. But how much is too much?

    Image #2:
No, this image was not interesting to me. Maybe its because I like a lot of color in photos and this photo doesn’t provide that. The significance of this image is that maybe this guy is in the war, and he just got shot so he is falling down. Something the artist is trying to tell me is that even good people can have bad things happen to them. Now that I look back at both images I see their both fighting against something. Either its obesity, or their enemy of their country. Everyone is fighting against something always. Connections I made in both these images: Bread=Gun, Bag of food=mans little black bag and both backgrounds are gray.

    Image #3 & 4:
I think that this image is very disturbing. This picture show history, and history tells a story. The artist is trying to say the me in these images is that some people can be horrible and mean, that they don’t care who they hurt. As in this little girl in the historical image got her clothes burned off of her. The significance and connections I made was that both these little girls are screaming, both about two way different things. Maybe one is screaming about getting a new doll and being excited, and the other I screaming about get her clothes burned off of her.

    Image #5 & 6:
Yes, this image is interesting to me. It tells a story and shows compassion and bravery. The parking lot in the non historical image is significant to the street in the historical image. The carts in the non historical image are supposed to be significant to the tanks. The image showed rebellion against the Chinese and the modern day photo didn’t really show that much I would say.

  56. Delaney Warren

Image #1: The first image is definitely interesting because for one thing, the lady is wearing a fanny pack, which is pretty uncommon these days. Also, the lady is quite overweight and she’s falling backwards. I think maybe the significance of this image is that it’s showing that you need to watch what you eat. This image tells me that the lady eats too much unhealthy foods and now she’s having a heart attack and falling backwards.
Image #2: The historical photo of the soldier falling backwards is interesting because it’s really sad. I think this image is important because it demonstrates what happens in war. I think the artist is trying to show the world the awful things that war causes. After seeing the original, I think that the artist of the first image is trying to show the difference between the average American and soldiers. In the first image, the artist replaces the soldier’s gun with a baguette. The soldier uses his gun as a weapon to get rid of any problems (enemies). The average overweight American uses food as a weapon when their facing problems that they don’t want to deal with.
Image #3 & 4: I think this image is interesting because it’s a girl screaming in the middle of a doll aisle with no one around her. I can’t think of any significance to the picture. I think the artist is trying to show the difference between spoiled little kids in America and the poor girl in the middle of the Vietnam War. The girl in the doll aisle has clothes on, whereas the Napalm girl doesn’t. The only thing the Napalm girl probably cared about in that moment was staying alive. The doll girl only cared about getting a doll.
Image #5 & 6: The shopping cart image is interesting because the man is just standing in front of some shopping carts like he doesn’t have anything better to do with his time. I think this image is important because it shows how Americans overbuy and overdo things. The man has so many carts to choose from. He’s just one man, yet there are hundreds of carts for him to use. I think the artist is trying to say, “Does this man really need that large of a selection of carts?” After seeing the original, I think that the artist is trying to show the difference between the decisions that were made by the tank man and then by the shopping cart man. The tank man had a decision to make. Was he going to just stand in the sidelines and watch those tanks go by, or was he going to make a stand? The shopping cart man had a choice. Was he going to just go into the store without a shopping cart, or was he going to choose a cart from the huge selection the store offers? In the shopping cart picture, the shopping carts that replace the tanks are important because they show how different life is for Americans than it is for countries at war.

  57. Claire Youngerman

Image #1: I think this picture is interesting because it’s very different and it makes you look at it longer to try and figure out it’s meaning. I think the significance of this picture is that American adults do not really have anything to worry about in today’s world and they don’t have anything they are really willing to fight for. I think that the artist of this photo is trying to say that today American adults have too much that it is bringing us back and not allowing us to move forward.

Image #2: This is an interesting image because it shows you how hard of a life this soldier had. The significance of this image is that American soldiers many years ago had a cause and something that they wanted to fight for. In this photo I think the artist is trying to say that. People had more they were willing to fight for and they had something that they were willing to risk their lives for. In the previous image, the lady was holding junk food and things that are unhealthy and in this image the man is holding a gun that he used to help his country. It really shows how people have changed from having to fight for everything then to having to fight for nothing.

Image#3: This image is interesting because it is showing the happiness of a girl when she sees this big row of dolls that she obviously adores. The significance of this image is kids in the world today are surrounded by things that they will most like be able to get and have to work for nothing. I think the artist is trying to say that children have so many things that bring them happiness even though it is something that is not important.

Image #4: This is an interesting picture because the viewer really feels for the kids in this picture. This significance of this photo is the look pure terror in these children’s faces. I think the artist is trying to say that children back in the day had so many troubles and they experienced this when they were so young. This picture and the previous one are very different because it first shows a child with so much happiness but then a child with so many hardships and troubles.

Image #5: I think this is an interesting picture because when you first look at it, you are unsure what it means. The significance of this photo is that people now have nothing really holding them back. I think the artist is trying to say that people now have nothing really scare to face in today’s world.

Image #6: I really like this image because you see this innocent man in front of these giant tanks and you want to see what happens after this. The significance of this image is that even though this person is small he can still do something. I think the artist is trying to say that even though it may seem that you cannot do something you can still try. It is obvious that this man cannot move these big tanks but he can stand in front of them. This picture and the other picture are very different because in the other one there are hundreds of shopping carts.
The difference is you can move shopping carts.

  58. Devan Peterson

Image #1: This is an interesting image because it makes a very real comparison between the soldiers on the battlefront and the people at
home. I think it is significant because it shows how people at home
take for granted what they have because of people dying for them in
war. It tells me not to take for granted what I have, and to remember
what people are doing for me in war. After seeing the original, I
realized how the artist was portraying a soldier with the over-weight
woman, so I could see the importance of it more. The objects show the
difference of what soldiers are dying with at war and what people are
    dying with at home.
Image #2: It is interesting because it shows how spoiled the kids are
in countries that are well-off and not at war, while others are struggling to survive in other places. The significance of this image is to show the difference in what people are going through, whether it is getting bombed or being spoiled rotten in a doll shop. The artist is trying to remind people to be thankful for what they have, and to remember the people who don’t have those things. After seeing the original, I can see the relevance of the girl being surrounded by toys. The significance of these objects is to show the extreme difference between what the two little girls are going through, whether it is running away from being bombed or frolicking through a doll shop.
Image #3: This is an interesting image because there is hundreds of shopping carts in an empty lot, with one man holding one bag of groceries. The significance is to show the extreme measures that can be taken to take care of something rather small or insignificant, and how these measures can be ridiculous. I think the artist is trying to make a comparison to the ridiculous amounts of shopping carts for a little load, and the outrageous measures that are taken is war to do something insignificant. After seeing the original, I can see that the places of war are overly brutal, when trying to take care of things that can cause little harm. I think the significance is to show the magnitude of difference between the outrageous circumstances that people face in places at war and places at peace.

    Image #1:
    • This is a very interesting image
    • It is an interesting image as the obese woman appears to be falling down from the weight of herself and her food. She also has a contrast with her grey background and an interesting facial expression
    • The image is significant because she appears to be ashamed and uncomfortable yet as she is falling she is holding up a baguette as if she is putting the food before herself.
    • I think the artist is trying to portray the troubles of obesity, especially the obesity epidemic in the United States and other parts of the world.

    Image #2:
    • It is an interesting image
    • It’s interesting because of the man’s apparel, facial expression, and body motion and position
    • I think the significance is that the soldier is almost embracing his death, and putting himself forward to protect something. He’s sort of making a peaceful stand, putting his gun behind him. Possibly he’s just giving up too.
    • I think the artist is showing the death of a republic.
    • Perhaps the first picture was trying to represent the death of the United States’ Republic
    • The main object, the gun, was replaced by a baguette, an equally dangerous thing. The significance is that what they’re holding is their own demise

    Image # 3
    • Yes, It’s quite interesting
    • It’s interesting because the colors are basically all white and pink, and the girls’ arm position and facial expression are quite fascinating
    • The significance is that the girl appears upset besides the fact that she is in an aisle filled with dolls, and she is dressed like one herself. She appears to be terrified, confused, and hurt.
    • Perhaps the artist is trying to show how society tries to make all of its members, women in particular, look pretty and the same and fit perfectly in boxes. The girl is an outcast; she tries to be like them but she can’t fit in, so she feels upset and insecure, yet still grabs on to her doll.

    Image #4
    • It’s a very interesting, tragic photo
    • It’s interesting because of the subjects, the war-torn background, the emotion, and the fear.
    • The significance is that the children are emaciated, terrified, screaming, running from the haunting black smoke and soldiers. The girl is burning from napalm and naked, wailing.
    • The artist is trying to show the brutality, tragedy, and recklessness of the Vietnam War and its victims, often innocent children.
    • I think that it may be trying to show that although society may not intend to cause this emotional scarring to children, their insecurity and conformity is a byproduct of their careless and greedy actions.
    • The first girl is dressed like a doll running through an aisle of dolls. It’s as if the girl’s doll clothing is scarring her emotionally and causing her to scream and run, while the napalm on the naked girl’s back is scarring her physically.

  60. Sean Anthony

    Image #5
    • The picture is somewhat interesting.
    • It’s interesting because the man is standing alone in front of four longs rows of shopping carts in an abandoned parking lot. However, the colors make the image somewhat bland and less interesting.
    • The significance is that the man is standing up to these shopping carts that seem to be ready to mow him down.
    • I think the artist is trying to show the danger and overpowering of capitalism and consumerism in our society, and how if one person stands up against it they’re just going to be mowed down.

    Image #6
    • It’s a very interesting image.
    • A single man is standing up against the looming tanks of the Chinese military, setting himself up to easily be killed.
    • The significance is that the man is sacrificing his life to stand up for what he knows is fair and just.
    • The image says to me that it’s important to stand up for fairness and equity, if you know that it’s right, despite the consequences.
    • My answers have not changed, except to emphasize that the man is standing up against corrupt capitalism. I find it fascinating how Michael Krebs recreates famous pictures to suit and make statements about modern day issues.
    • The tanks are replaced by shopping carts, yet they both represent unfair authority and dominance. The men look the same, to show that they are the same, both standing up for their beliefs.

  61. Francisco Vega

Image 1&2: I believe that the first image is very funny and it looks like the women isn’t falling. It looks she is sitting in a chair. She isn’t really falling to me. This picture isn’t really interesting other than the fact that it is funny. That is the only reason. I believe that the artist is trying to tell me, never buy a large piece of bread and walk outside. My answer have not changed by seeing the original. The new one still isn’t important to me. I don’t see how bread is a gun, or how a soldier falling in combat is a big woman falling from buying too much food.
Image 3&4: I believe that the new image is very cute and brings a smile to my face. I can imagine how happy my niece would be in her place. It is a nice picture and I like it. I believe that the artist is trying to tell me that girls love dolls. My answers have not changed since seeing the original because to me they are two different pictures. I don’t like how a girl having fun in a store is a Vietnamese-Canadian girl running down a street in total agony because some (censored) airstiked some napalm all over her.
Image 5&6: The new image to me, has not interesting features. It is completely boring and the guy in the picture is dumb because he wasted all his time getting all the carts so he could take that picture. My answers have not changed since seeing the old one because like I said before they are completely different pictures. When can tanks be symbolized by shopping carts. The artist is trying to tell me, that he has too much time on his hands.

Image 2:Yes this picture is appealing to me because it has a creepy setting to it with all of the dolls and the creepy woman.

Image 3: Yes this is an interesting image because the guy is standing in front of shopping carts. This is interesting because how would you get that many shopping carts and make a photo like they did(comparing to the tank image)? The significance of this image is that the guy is standing in front of shopping cart in a empty parking lot. The author is trying to show how one person could stop something bigger than it self. The image is telling me that the guy wont move out of the way from the shopping carts. After seeing the original i now understand that the guy stands in front of the shopping carts because he doesn’t want them to go further. The significance of the items being compared is a tank, and a whole bunch of shopping carts, a killing machine and a grocery cart.

  63. Shane Walden

Image 1 and 2 are very interesting. When you see image 1 you think that it is boring, but when you see the second image you realize the meaning of them and the comparison between the women and the soldier. There is some irony in the first image because you can see that the lady is overweight and instead of trying to fix it, she eats more and she is falling backward in life. The second image is a man who appears to have been shot during some kind of war. Most likely a war in the 1940’s to represent all the war going on and now america is sort of at war with obesity.

In image 3 and 4 you see a little girl who is running with joy at the sight of all the dolls at the store while multipel kids are screaming in terror and one of the kids has there clothes burnt off by napalm. The significance of the image is to show that a girl in america’s life was a lot easier while a girl in vietnams life suring the vietnam war era was really tough. All you can do is feel bad for the girl in the second image because they know that the children should not have got involved in the war. The author is trying to say you should value your life in america because other people live life a lot harder

  64. Katrina Hayek

1.I don’t really find this image interesting because it’s just an overweight woman falling backwards with a loaf of bread in her hand. It’s more random than interesting. There is really no significance here. I think the artist is saying that America is falling because of obesity, and that’s whats going on in the picture. The lady is obese and she’s falling.

2.The image is not super interesting, more dramatic. It just doesn’t pop enough. I think the significance is that the artist was saying that he died, so he’s falling backwards, like he’s dying. The artist is trying to say that hes dying so he’s falling back. I think that he made this picture dramatic like he just got killed.

3.I think this picture is kind of weird because the girl is kind of creepy looking. I mean any little girl would do something like that if they saw that many dolls and stuff, but it’s just weird. I think the artist is trying to say that she hasn’t seen so many toys in her life so she’s super excited.

4.This picture is pretty interesting because it shows what really happened in war and he was trying to say a bunch of people were affected by it. I don’t really see how it relates to the other image though. The girls in the image though both show a lot of emotion.

5.This image isn’t that interesting because it’s just a man standing in front of shopping carts by himself. It doesn’t show anything happening. He looks clueless.

6.This image is way more interesting because it’s a man standing in front of tanks. He’s protesting and doesn’t seem scared, but brave. I think the artist is trying to say that this man is brave and not scared of anything.. especially tanks..

  65. Shelly Boyd

    Image #1 & 2
I think that the picture shows that the woman is falling. It looks like she is wearing workout clothes. This picture is not very interesting, because the background is very plain. I believe the artist it trying to say, that this obese woman is so excited to eat her bread that she starts to eat it, and falls over. Image number two looks as if the man has been shot at war. It interest me more than the obese lady, but still isn’t very interesting because of the color. I think the artist is trying to say that the solider took his life for our nation. I think after seeing the original picture, it changes how I see image one.

    Image #3 & 4
I think that these images are interesting, because they both look like they are telling a story. The little girl in the first image looks excited to be with the dolls. But in the second image the little girl looks miserable, because she just got her clothes burnt off. I think it changes the picture completely because it goes from a happy little girl to a horrified little girl. I think that is significant because it shows what is different about both of these little girls.

    Image #5 & 6
I think these images are very interesting to see the difference between. In the first image it just looks like a man standing in front of a bunch of shopping carts. It looks completely harmless. Then you see the second image and it looks very dangerous, the man is standing in front of tanks, just to try and stop them. I think that is significant because it shows his bravery and courage.

  66. Cassidy Bouchard

    Images1&2
Yes, I think this an interesting picture because personally I think it is trying to make a statement about obesity. The significance of this picture is I think it is trying to show the falling of another person falling in a battle, in this picture it is falling against the fight of obesity and the other one is falling of a fight for our country. The artist is probably trying to get a point across of how in a battle not everyone makes it out and it’s not as easy as it seems.

    Images3&4
I find this picture really interesting because it is showing a little girl with all of the horror in the world running down a doll isle in a toy store; I like how it shows how the mood of a child can change just by their location. In comparison to the other picture I find it really amazing because it has a little kid running in horror as her clothes was burned off she was running naked for her life. I think it is trying to show how much kids used to have to endure for horror to run through them and what kids find horrifying now.

    Images5&6
I do not find this image interesting at all. I see no significance, I understand nothing about this picture and what it is trying to get across, my answers haven’t changed and I do not think that shopping carts are anything like army tanks.

  67. Lucy Knowles

Image#1: Woman Falling Vs. Falling soldier
The image of the woman is interesting once you see what’s in her hands; but at first glance it’s frankly just funny.
The pictures significance could be possibly to portray obesity and how our Country is falling victim to carbs. The fact that the woman is holding bread that’s opened and another loaf in a large bag of grocery bag really says something.
I believe that the photographer is really trying to make a point given the fact that he, in his own right, is recreating a very famous image. A soldier falling in battle verses a may I say “over weight” woman falling. The original is honorable the second is disgraceful in a sense.

Image#2: Little girl screaming in pink store Vs. “Napalm Girl”
The first (very pink) image is immediately eye catching with the bottle of Pepto that seems to have spilt over the entire picture. The over exaggeration of pink also implies to the viewer that the photographer is really trying to get a message across.
The first images significance I believe is to portray our Country’s greed and superficial mentality where plastic and stuffing can make a child scream just as fear or pain can.
I believe the photographer was trying to…^

Image#3: Man standing in front of shopping carts Vs. “Tank Man”
The first image is very interesting. One, because when do you ever see that man shopping carts at once…a little intimidating. Also when you see the original image the first suddenly become overly empowering. But the power comes from the man standing and not the carts/tanks he’s standing in front of.
The first images significance comes from the substitution of the tanks with the shopping carts.
What I get from the image is that photographer is trying emphasize the real power shopping has over people. He’s comparing A man standing up to society to a man standing up to socialism…think about it…

  68. Aaron Hooks

Image 1 & 2: Both of these images are very interesting because they are so similar. Even though they are similar they are very different, Image 1 portrays an obese individual falling backwards with a bag of groceries. Maybe she has slipped and because of her size she can’t catch herself. Image 2 shows a falling solider in the same position but he may have been shot or wounded and is falling down as a natural reaction. The artists of these images want to show how they are similar but for different reasons, one an old solider the other an obese individual.

Image 3 & 4: In these images one girl is screaming in a department store as the other is screaming because he town and clothes were all taken by the vietnam war. Both images are the same but different in an entirely different way. The significance of Image 2 is how artist captured such a horrifying picture of sadness and then the artist of Image1 finds a similar Image but modernized. The artists are trying to say that we may feel the same feeling as people in that situation but for a better reason.

Image 5 & 6: these two images were similar because they both represent the same idea but one is bravery and the other is art. Sitting on the same idea the 1st Image is representing the 2nd Image but doing it with shopping carts. The artists of these pictures are trying to show how you can stand up against anything

  69. Ian Baldwin

Image 1&2: I find image one very interesting just because I see the reference to the older picture of the soldier dying but I am not sure how to put it down with words. The soldier looks to be underfed and falling for a country he loves. While the obese woman is overly fed and falling for nothing. I think the artist is trying to say is how backwards society is today by showing the obese woman.
Image 3&4: I find this image not very interesting to be it just looks like a girl who is crying over something like a toy just because her parents wouldn’t buy it for her. I think the artist is trying to show how spoiled and lucky our society is today. My first one about whether it is interest or not did change just because of the way the artist portrays the original image and kind of helps prove what I said about the first image.
Image 5&6: I don’t really find this image interesting I’m not sure what the artist is saying and is kind of confusing to me but I do think it is beautifully shot but that’s about it. Like I said before I’m truly not sure what the artist is trying to with the image. Now that I’ve seen the original I see the how the images are the same looks wise but I’m still not sure what the artist is saying so it doesn’t really change my answers.

  70. Noah Schwerdtfeger

    Image #1&2
This image was quite interesting if I might add. The big lady seems to be frozen in time. I ponder to myself of how this photograph was taken. Was she pushed? Was she just conveniently captured in the moment as she stumbled backwards with a bag of groceries in her left arm and a baguette in her right hand? The significance of the image to me isn’t really that great. The artist was obviously trying to represent the Vietnamese man falling backwards with a rifle in his hand. This photo is called “The Falling Soldier”. “The Falling Soldier is an interesting photo to me. It portrays the everyday struggle that soldiers have to deal with, especially with this taking place in the 1930’s. They didn’t quite have the luxury that today’s soldiers have.

    Image # 3&4
This picture is of, what seems to be a little girl running through a toy store. This picture I don’t find that interesting only because I was never a little girl running through a toy store so it doesn’t bring back memories or spark any interest in me. I just honestly don’t care for the photo. It means nothing to me. I don’t see any relation from the color image to the black and white image, only that the girls are in practically the same bodily position. The original image was very touching. To see that kids of certain villages had to go through the same traumatic experiences as the grown men and women at war almost make me want to stop all wars. But that will never happened seeing as people are always going to argue and find something to fight about to try to assert their dominance, or show each other who’s boss. I think that the artist was trying to show that kids nowadays don’t have to deal with such troubles as the little girl with her clothes burned off and that kids nowadays aren’t grateful for what they have and always want the new and better stuff.

    Image #5&6
The image taken by Michael Krebs was quite interesting to me in the way of how he decided to replicate the original. This photo tries to show a man standing in front of a large crowd. The long lines of shopping carts are the crowd and the crowd would represent the U.S. Army/Military. I think the artist wanted to show people that one man can make a difference. That one man can make a huge change, whether the change is good or bad, is up to the people that support him. The president is like this. One man that can make a huge change. These changes don’t happen because he decides they will, they happen because his crowd either supports the idea or they don’t. The original image is quite astounding in the way that the man just stands his ground while huge tanks try to bypass him. The man was a protester that didn’t like what was happening so he held his ground. I think the artist was trying to show that one man can make a difference and get the support from people all around the world.

Image 1 and 2: This image says to me that there are different problems facing people than there were facing people in the past. Today people are more likely to die from eating unhealthy food than getting shot. Neither image is extremely interesting, there is not something that would make me say “wow how interesting”, but they are both unique in that they represent the same thing in two distinct equally precise ways.
Image 3 and 4: I think the “napalm girl” image is much more interesting than the image above it. In the “napalm girl” image there is a lot going on. in the background we can see a large unnaturally dark cloud forming and seemingly getting closer to the camera, and in the foreground we see another frightening scene, with soldiers and children alike running away from the encroaching ominous cloud. In the image above not much seems to be going on, there is a child running playfully down the toy aisle of a store, with pink and purple dolls surrounding her on all sides. The objects used to replace the original image do not seem that significant in the sense that, the girl in the second photo is screaming of fear and pain, while the girl in the first photo is skipping happily and smiling.
Image 5 and 6: I found the “tank man” photo to be interesting because one courageous man is standing up against what seems to be an army of tanks. The photo above is similar both men are in the way of an object that is bigger than them and could easily overrun them. The shopping carts used to replace the tanks are significant because they are bigger than the man standing in front of them just like the tanks. I believe that the both men are not sure of what to do with themselves in either image and are puzzled by their own actions.

Image set 1: While the two images are similar in position, the two people are quite different. With the more modern image, the photographer may have been trying to express how the two are each fighting their own battles, in the case of the soldier, he is fighting in a actual battle, while the woman is fighting against obesity and heart failure which is perhaps the only battle many Americans today still fight. The artist is perhaps also making a critique of modern day Americans, that while there have been people who sacrificed their lives fighting for something they believed in, obese people are sacrificing their lives for their own gluttony. Before I saw the original image, I was a little confused as to the significance of the photo, thinking it may even have been intended to be comical, but after seeing the second photo I realized how the artist had used it to make his photo into a metaphor.

Image set 2: by comparing these two images, the photographer is perhaps trying express the vast difference in living conditions of people around the world, and perhaps that if the girl had been born into a different society, that is the life she would be living. The irony is that they both have the same expression, but one is of pain and horror, the other is one of overwhelming joy. I think it may also be trying to point out the unfairness in distribution of wealth, that some live in such excess, while others have nothing. He is also saying that while childhood for some is a paradise, while for others it is hell on earth.

Image set 3: With these two photographs, the photographer is contrasting the separate struggles of the two men, while one is fighting against the tyranny of the militarily enforced regime of the people’s republic of China, while the other man standing in front of shopping carts could be meant to symbolize a struggle against depression in the face of the monotony of working at a repetitive job day after day.

Image 1: I think the first image is very interesting. It may be a sad image to look at but it is very important because obesity is a big problem in the United States and it needs to be stopped. It is ironic that she is holding bread and falling over. The subject must know that eating such foods is very unhealthy and just adding to her medical problems. It is interesting because of the colors and irony surrounding the image. The artist is saying that people need to eat healthier and not be oblivious to obesity and its problems.
Image 2: I think the second image is very interesting because the viewer gets to decide what is happening in the picture. The man could be falling to die or he could have slipped. The image shows the viewer about war and how terrible it can be. The artist is trying to say that we need to respect men in the army even if they are not a part of The United States army.
Image 3: The third image is very interesting. I cannot tell if she is happy or sad. It is interesting because it makes the viewer think about her emotions and intentions. The significance is that toys are a big part of Americans culture. The artist is trying to say that kids or people think that materialistic things will make them happy when that is very untrue.
Image 4: The fourth image is not interesting. It is just extremely sad. The significance is what war does to everyone. It is sad are terrifying. The artist is trying to say that the war results in many terrible things like war, poverty, and loss.
Image 5: This image is very interesting. I am having a hard time comprehending what is going on. It is interesting because it is so abstract. The significance is the way the carts are so perfectly placed together. The artist is telling the viewer that perfection is very hard to get or grasp but it can be possible.
Image 6: This photo is very interesting. It is interesting because the man has so much courage to stand in front of numerous tanks. The significance is the courage and determination the man has in the picture. The artist is telling the viewer that we need to stand up for what we believe in even if there could be terrible consiquences.

Image #1: The picture is interesting because the woman is dressed in leggings and a baggy looking shirt – exercise clothes. Also, she has a fanny pack on. It’s quite awkward because she’s half falling/half sitting with a baguette in her right hand! I think the significance of this image is that this woman is struggling with her weight.

    Historical Photograph (#1):
This image is very interesting because the man is on a hill and he too is half falling/half sitting with a gun in his hand. I think the significance of this image is that this man had lived a difficult life and he is struggling to keep up with the challenges he faces.

    Image (#2):
This photo is very interesting because there’s a young woman running through what looks like a Barbie doll aisle and she looks like she’s yelling, not something people see very often. I feel that the significance of the image is that one is never too old for their inner child. After seeing the original, it’s very saddening to see all these children crying because of fear. I feel that the artist was trying to convey a message to stop the war in Vietnam because of the impact it has on everyone, especially the children who have nothing to do with it. The significance of the objects used in each image is to show what makes girls joyful, and what an impact it is when they are crying, it’s saddening.

    Image (#3):
This image is interesting because there is a man standing in front of a bunch of shopping carts in the middle of an abandoned parking lot. I think the significance of the image is that he is trying to rebel against the store whose shopping carts those belong to. After seeing the original, I think the artist wanted to convey the man’s message; to stop the war. Also, I think he wanted to show that one person can make a huge impact, no matter who they are. I think the significance of the objects is that the shopping carts represent our modern day problem, mainly targeting store companies due to the amount of control they have.

    Image 1 & 2:
This image isn’t that interesting to me because it doesn’t really blurt out anything to me right off the bat.
The significance of this image is probably to save your food first if you are about to fall? The image says to me that food comes first.
This is a very interesting image because it says a lot of things about the Spanish Civil War; anything could have been happening during the time that the photograph was being taken. The Spanish Civil War was not an easy time to be going through, especially being a soldier throughout that time. The image says to me that, maybe he got shot and as he was falling to the ground the photographer took the picture. Now I can see how the first picture kind of related to the war image because of the position the man was in.

    Image 3 & 4:
This image doesn’t really interest me, it’s a bit more creepy than interesting. There is too much pink everywhere. The significance about this image is that it’s showing a girl screaming in a hallway full of pink and dolls, maybe because of excitement?
The original image interests me a lot. It seems like the children are screaming and running away from all the chaotic gun shots. Instead of dolls the original image had actual people that were running away from the fire because their backs got burned.

    Image 5 & 6:
The image shown looks extremely boring to me. A big load of shopping carts in a parking lot and a guy just standing there has basically no significance to me whatsoever. I do not like this image, this is too plain.
The “Tank Man” image doesn’t really interest me either. The story to it is interesting, but the image just doesn’t really speak out to me as well as the last one has. I don’t think this has anything to do with the original.

For images 1 and 2 I found it to be interesting because image 1 is a picture that’s representing, simply how we die in our age today. After comparing this image to the original image(2) I found it to be an accurate representation. Forty years ago it would be more common for you to die in war and today it’s more common if you die from obesity. I thought it was clever how to photographer used this connection in the First image with the original photo to make it now what it is.

For images 3 and 4 I found the first image to not be that interesting. At a glance I could not connect this image to any historical event. After seeing the original photograph I could connect the images, in the sense that while people are suffering and dying around the world. Others are…shopping. I thought that the connection was not as strong as in the other images in this set but it still was a good connection.

For images 5 and 6 I found the first image to be not that interesting at all really. It wasn’t very clear and did not at all look visually appealing, but I could easily connect this first image with the historical background without looking at the second image. The second image was a protester standing in front of a tank in Tiananmen Square. I thought that the first image was a bad representation of the real photo and could have been more accurately represented.

  77. Alyona Brody

Image 1 and 2 I found interesting because it is showing an overweight woman that represents how our society is becoming, and the original is showing an image of a guy that looks like he is in a war. The significance of the images is that our society is becoming greedier and greedier. The author I think is trying to tell us that we shouldn’t take things for “granted” and that we need to do things that will help us become stronger as a society.

Image 3 and 4 I didn’t find very interesting because it’s just showing a young girl running down the aisle yelling. The original is showing a young girl who looks like she has been starving for months and doesn’t have any clothes on. The image shows us that while we are enjoying life and yelling because we didn’t like a doll , other people are dying in other countries because they don’t have much as we do.

Image 5 and 6 I did not very interesting because there is a guy with a bunch of shopping carts and the original image is about how a guy stood in front of the tanks. The other image does not really make sense and represent the original image.
